On this page you will see a number of screendumps with a small caption that will help you to setup your Dot-WW email account in a correct way. For the moment this page only holds screendumps of MS-Outlook Express 6.0. English and MS-Outlook 2000 (build 9.0) Dutch version. Most settings shown here can be used in other programs as well. Op deze pagina vind U een aantal scherm afdrukken met een uitleg die U helpt Uw Dot-WW email account goed te kunnen instellen. Op dit ogenblik staan er alleen maar MS-Outlook Express 6.0. Engels en MS-Outlook 2000 (build 9.0) Nederlands uitgelegd. De meeste van deze opties echter, kunnen ook in andere programmas gebruikt worden. Met de tijd zullen er veel meer worden toegevoegd ! Ok, the first thing you have to make is a mail account.
Normally when you start MS-Outlook for the first time it will ask
you a lot of questions and creates one of these.
Dont worry about that, on this page, all we be ok. Now, In this example I have named it "Dot WW-Account" You can call this screen by selecting "Accounts" from the "Tools" Menu Now click on "Properties" and continue with the next screendump |

After clicking properties you will see the screen on the right.
Here you can fill in your name, email address etc. In the example I used the name of John Arbuckle, the famous owner of Garfield the cat. For those who don't know him : http://garfield.wabbit-wion.nl |

The next tab shows the servers you have to use. Incoming = pop3.wabbit-wion.nl Outgoing = smtp.wabbit-wion.nl Please note : The checkbox "My server requires authentication" in the "Outgoing Mail Server" - section is marked ! This is mainly to prevent spammers from misusing the Dot-WW server for theire faul deeds. |

It also is possible to use the IMAP protocol instead of POP3 for the incoming server.
If that is the case the picture will be almost the same, except for the incoming server.

Please note : If you do use IMAP, you will get an extra tab as shown on the right.
Usually the settings already appear as shown here but check them anyway. |

Ok, this is a tab that is very easy for me to explain. Basically you should choose
your connection. In the case of the example: I used the local network to go to the outside world. If you have an old- fashioned dial-up connection, make sure you check the "Always connect to this account using" and choose the internet-connection from the list. |

Ok, we have landed on the second last tab of the settings. Be honest, what can go wrong with the default values ??? |

The last tab and almost finished. The two top sections "Server Port Numbers" and "Server Timeouts" should be left untouched. These setting are worldwide standards so if you change them, it will be very likely that MS-Outlook will be unable to accomplish anything anymore. The third section however is very nice for POP3 protocol users. These settings allow you to keep a copy of your incoming mail on the POP3-server. What use does that have ? Well imagine your PC crashed. You will still have the last x-days of incoming mail saved. In the example I also made sure that the items I deleted, are REALLY deleted. No copies on the server. |

Het eerste dat U moet doen is een mail account aanmaken.
Normaal, wanneer MS-Outlook voor het eerst gestart wordt,
zal MS-Outlook U met een hele reeks vragen bombarderen en er eentje aanmaken.
Maakt U zich niet ongerust over de opgegeven intellingen, alles komt vanzelf goed. In dit voorbeeld heb ik het account "Dot WW-Account" genoemd. Dit scherm is op te roepen door "Accounts" te kiezen uit het menu "Extra". Klik nu op het account en daarna op "Eigenschappen" en ga door met de volgende scherm afdruk. |

Na het klikken op "Eigenschappen" ziet U het scherm hier rechts.
Hier vult U Uw naam, email adres enz in. In het voorbeeld heb ik als naam "John Arbuckle" opgegeven. Dit is de naam van de overbekende eigenaar van Garfield. Voor de cultuurbarbaar : http://garfield.wabbit-wion.nl |

Het volgende tabje laat zien welke servers U kunt gebruiken. Inkomende = pop3.wabbit-wion.nl Uitgaande = smtp.wabbit-wion.nl Let Op : Het vinkje "Voor deze server is verificatie vereist" in de sectie "Server voor uitgaande e-mail staat aan ! Dit is tegen de SPAMmers die proberen de Dot-WW server te misbruiken voor hun vuile werk.. |

Het is natuurlijk ook mogenlijk om IMAP ipv POP3 te gebruiken als inkomende server.
Het enige in het plaatje dat dan anders wordt ten opzichen van POP3 is de inkomende server.

Let Op : Wanneer U IMAP gaat gebruiken, komt er zoals hier rechts afgebeeld, een extra tabje bij.
Normaal gesproken staat dit standaard goed ingesteld. Controleer het echter toch even. |

Ok, alweer een heel simpel uit te leggen tabje. Hier kiest U simpelweg Uw verbinding naar het internet. In mijn geval gebruik ik het interne netwerk om naar het grote boze internet te gaan. Heeft U echter een ouderwetse inbel verbinding, klik dan altijd "Telefoonlijn gebruiken" en kies Uw verbinding uit de lijst in de sectie "Modem". |

Het laatste tabje en bijna klaar. De twee bovenste secties "Poortnummer van de server"en "Time-outs van de server" Kunt U het beste maar niet aankomen. Deze instellingen zijn een wereldwijde standaard, verandering ervan kan er voor zorgen dat MS-Outlook helemaal geen e-mail verkeer meer voor elkaar kan krijgen. De derde sectie echter, is erg leuk voor POP3 protocol gebruikers. Middels deze instellingen kunt U een kopie achterlaten op de POP3-Server. Wat heeft dat voor nut ? Stel Uw computer crashed, dan heeft U in ieder geval nog een x-aantal dagen mail op de Dot-WW server staan. Mail die U zo weer kunt binnen halen met MS-Outlook. In het voorbeeld heb ik ook aangevinkt dat wanneer U mail wist, de mail ook ECHT gewist wordt. |
